“Sometimes it would be nice to imagine what it would be like if it all went away,” the first trailer for Cinemax’s upcoming time-reversal crime series Rellik ponders. The six-episode limited series is a murder mystery solved from the back end. Taking a tip from the kid in The Shining, who dyslexicly warned about upcoming murders, Rellik is Killer spelled backwards.
“Focusing on a serial killer, the story begins with the capture of the suspect and moves backwards in time to the crime itself,” reads the official synopsis. “Obsessed with his hunt for the killer, Gabriel’s story becomes intrinsically bound to that of his suspect, asking the question, ‘What are the experiences that forge the people we all become?’”
RELLIK stars Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones) as Gabriel, an “obsessive and disfigured U.K. police detective,” and Jodi Balfour (Quarry, The Crown) as Elaine, his “bright and intense partner,” according to the character breakdown. The cast also includes Rosalind Eleazar (Christine), Paterson Joseph (Isaac), Paul Rhys (Patrick), Michael Shaeffer (Steven) and Lærke Winther (Lisa).
Four episodes are directed by Sam Miller, and two by Hans Herbots. Rellik was written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Liar) who executive produced it through through their Two Brothers Pictures along with New Pictures’s Willow Grylls, Charlie Pattinson and Elaine Pyke, and the BBC’s Stephen Wright. The series already aired in the U.K. on BBC One
