Move over, Archer. Some new animated spies are coming to town.

According to Deadline, Netflix has ordered a 10-episode season of Q-Force, an animated adult LGBTQ spy comedy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Gabe Liedman. That’s an impressive number of adjectives!

Liedman will write the series and serve as showrunner. He will also executive produce alongside big-time TV figures Mike Schur (creator of Parks and Recreation, The Good Place, and more), Todd Milliner and his Hazy Mills Productions, and Will & Grace star Sean Hayes.  Hayes is rumored to star in the show as well as a handsome secret agent.

“A spy TV series is so tough, because they’re so expensive,” Milliner told Deadline. “We were thinking how do we get to do gay spy and every week, and the only way to do that is animated, because we can do all of the fun parts of a James Bond film. We can travel, we can have big chase sequences; animation is allowing us that freedom.”

Per that report, Hayes and Milliner have been looking to do a series about a gay secret agent for awhile. Now it seems as though the stars have all aligned. Schur is something of a TV comedy kingmaker now and bringing on Liedman (who also helped produced Pen15 and Broad City) is a big get. Hayes says that studios have been hesitant to greenlight spy shows with gay leads but his pitch of “Gay James Bond” appealed to Schur.

The series is being produced by Universal TV. Netflix has increasingly turned away from ordering shows that they don’t produce but Q-Force must have been too strong a pitch to pass up. The acquisition also improves Netflix’s already considerable standing in the animated comedy realm. No release date has yet been announced but Q-Force will one day join a streaming service that includes adult-oriented animated hits like BoJack Horseman, Big Mouth, Disenchantment, and more
