Nina Dobrev to Return to TV in CBS’ Fam

Dobrev will star in a comedy about a woman whose perfect life is threatened when her sister comes to live with her.

Nina Dobrev is one of the most underrated actresses out there right now. The Vampire Diaries star played multiple characters on the CW drama, and made it look easy, coming into her own over the course of her time on the teen series.

Now, Dobrev is set to come back to TV in a very different role from the one that made her famous. According to Deadline, Dobrev will be starring in Fam, an upcoming multi-camera comedy to air on CBS.

Written by Corinne Kingsbury and directed by Scott Ellis, the show is about a woman named Clem (Dobrev) whose younger sister, Shannon (Odessa Adlon) comes to live with Clem and her fiance to escape their father.  This is a problem for Clem because, in her effort to reinvent her life, she has told love-of-her-life Jay that her father is, in fact, dead. Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheryl Lee Ralph are also set to star.

According to Deadline, Dobrev’s Clem is “grounded, deeply funny, quick-witted and outspoken.” The reintroduction of Shannon into her life proves to upset everything she has built since she moved away from her father, Freddy Banks, and her hot mess of an upbringing. This premise sounds like it has the potential for some drama as well as comedy, something we know Dobrev can handle. The Bulgarian-born Canadian actress proven her drama chops on The Vampire Diariesand The Final Girls, while showing off her comedic skills in everything from Lets Be Cops to Workaholics.
