New Outlander Trailer

We have a few quick thoughts on the Outlander trailer as the anticipation for the series builds.

Outlander Starz

We’re still two weeks out from the official release, and one week away from the advanced screening of Outlander‘s pilot episode, which Starz plans on sharing via On Demand and its website, and the anticipation is deadly.

I just watched the newest extended trailer which was released at Comic-Con (both Ronald D. Moore and Diana Gabaldon were in the house, represent!) and now I am beside myself. You can only hope when T.V. and movie-makers bring something you love already to life on screen that they’ll do it even an iota of justice. I know that’s how I’ve been approaching this upcoming adaptation — with all my fingers and toes crossed that I won’t want to set my television on fire.

Now, to be fair, all the trailers thus far for Outlander have been totally promising. But they’ve also been beyond tantalizing, in the way that only the best trailers are. So imagine my delight when I clicked play and was presented with this extended trailer, which puts any lingering doubts (and they were few) to bed permanently.

I am in love with Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall officially and completely. This trailer sets up Claire’s strange journey through time and really plays up just how dangerous the situation is in which she’s landed. We get some killer moments, too. But for me there were a couple of real stand-outs.

The first: Claire being all “whaaaaat” when confronted with “Black Jack” Randall and thinking her husband’s ancient ancestor is her husband.

The second: a peak of Lotte Verbeek as Geillis Duncan! Fans of the novels, stand up and take notice — she is excellent. Perhaps the greatest moment in the trailer is the one which had me jump out of my chair and dramatically swoon onto my sofa: The parting words between Claire and Jamie. I won’t spoil it here because you really ought to watch for yourselves, but suffice to say, they don’t just have the chemistry of the couple down — they’ve also got their patter on lock!
