BBC America just released another teaser for Killing Eve, its female-centric spy drama coming in April.
The new thriller pits the deceptively demure-looking Jodie Comer (The White Queen) as an assassin named Villanelle against the bored intelligence of Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Eve, a pay-grade MI5 desk jockey who’s looking for excitement. The extent of their warped relationship can clearly be gleaned from the new promo…
Based on the novellas by Luke Jennings and written for television by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Killing Eve topples the typical spy-action thriller as these two women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse.
In the previous, slightly longer trailer, Villanelle may look innocent at times or even simply mischievous as she maliciously topples a little girl’s ice cream, but underneath the painted on smile is a psychopath (don’t call her that, though) who clearly enjoys killing.
Killing Eve evokes something akin to the morally ambiguous relationship between Idris Elba’s Thomas Luther and Ruth Wilson’s Alice Morgan in BBC’s psychological crime drama, Luther, but with two women at its center, the dynamic is decidedly different. Eve’s desk-bound job as a security officer doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy, and Villanelle is a mercurial, talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her. Together, they’re a volatile mix of dangerous temptations.
Co-starring in Killing Eve alongside Oh and Comer are Fiona Shaw (True Blood) who plays Carolyn Martens, David Haig (Penny Dreadful) as Eve’s colleague Bill, and Kim Bodnia (The Bridge) as Konstantin. Further cast includes Darren Boyd, Sean Delaney, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Owen McDonnell.
Killing Eve premieres on Sunday April 8, 2018 at 8pm ET on BBC America.
