Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus SDCC Teaser Released

The first substantial teaser of the Invader Zim revival should spark plenty of childhood memories.

There’s a new teaser trailer for Nickelodeon’s Invader Zim TV movie that comes to us straight from SDCC 2018.

While this sneak peek doesn’t include any dialog or concrete plot details, it should give Invader Zim fans everywhere reasons to hope that this revival might just be able to recapture some of the magic from the cult classic TV series. At the very least, it certainly looks like the entire band has returned for one more show.

Still, even series creator Jhonen Vasquez says you should probably keep your expectations in check. In an interview with Polygon, he stated that “What I’m making isn’t going to be the best episode of Invader Zim.” His feeling is that there’s no way he can strive to make something with the sole intentions of recapturing the nostalgic childhood memories people have of the show. Instead, he’s setting out to create something that is its own thing.

In case you missed the initial announcement, Invader Zim will return in a 90 minute TV series from Jhonen Vazquez and Nickelodeon at some point in the undisclosed future. Considering how cemented in many of our minds Invader Zim was, it’s hard to believe it only ran for 27 episodes. It’s not clear if this is intended to bring closure to the series, or if it’s just another skewed adventure in the world of Invader Zim, but regardless, we’ll tune in as soon as they let us know when it’s coming!

“As a network that prides itself on a 25-year history of creating groundbreaking, hilarious animation for kids, Invader Zim is one of our great loves. It’s been so exciting to see its popularity grow over the last decade through social media, consumer products and the Zim comic books,” said Chris Viscardi, SVP, Content Development and Production, Animation, Nickelodeon in a statement. “What makes this announcement extra thrilling is the adventure that Jhonen has created for Zim, and I can promise you that it is as wonderfully absurd and strangely heartfelt as any fan of the original series could hope for, and kids seeing it for the first time will love it too.”

There’s also the official synopsis, which isn’t all that revealing, and shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with the show:

The Invader Zim TV movie follows the perpetually desperate and delusional Zim as he creates a new and potentially Earth-destroying plan to finally get the attention he deserves from his Irken leaders, the Almighty Tallest.

Richard Horvitz will return as Invader Zim, and the voice cast includes Rosearik Rikki Simons as GIR, Andy Berman as Dib Membrane, and Melissa Fahn as Gaz Membrane. Nickelodeon promises that “additional casting will be announced in the coming months.” We’ll update this when there’s more information.
