Hailee Steinfeld is poised to officially make the jump to prestige TV star. The Bumblebee actress, who is also set to star in Apple TV’s upcoming Dickinson, has been offered the lead role in the upcoming Disney+ MCU show Hawkeye, according to Variety.
The limited series, which had previously been announced, will see Jeremy Renner return as Clint Barton, aka the eponymous Hawkeye. Steinfeld, should she be officially cast, would play the lead role of Kate Bishop. In Marvel Comics, Kate takes over the mantle of Hawkeye, and is a member of the Young Avengers. Though Kate Bishop would premiere on live-action screen in the Hawkeye TV show, there would no doubt be opportunity later to expand the role into Marvel‘s feature film world.
Steinfeld is pretty perfect for the part. She broke onto the Hollywood scene as a kid with a star-making turn on True Grit, immediately showing she has the acting chop to take on a serious, high-pressure role. Since then, she has shown her range as both a dramatic and comedic actress (not to mention singer), with memorable roles in the Pitch Perfect franchise, The Edge of Seventeen, and the aforementioned Bumblebee. Frankly, any franchise would be lucky to have her.
Steinfeld would be joining a pretty sure bet herself. Not only is Hawkeye part of the MCU and Disney+’s first wave of original content (alongside Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki), the TV show recently announced Mad Men vet Jonathan Igla as showrunner. The show, especially should it focus more on Kate Bishop and less on Clint Barton, is shaping up to be a new kind of superhero TV drama presented in a totally new .
Disney+ is set to aunch on November 12, 2019, with Hawkeye set to premiere in Fall of 2021. You can read more about the Hawkeye TV series here.
