Earlier this month, word broke that Gotham had been renewed in an “11th hour decision” for Fox, and season 5 will mark the final batch of episodes for the network’s Batman prequel. The idea is that the renewal with give the show a chance to “wrap up” Bruce’s early journey to becoming Batman.
Gotham‘s executive producer John Stephens had a chat with comicbook recently about the direction that season 5 will take, and in addition to bringing the No Man’s Land arc to a close, the show will also be picking up some elements from other notable comic series, like Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s New 52-era Batman: Zero Year.
“There are, and I’m trying to remember which [stories] they actually are,” Stephens mulled. “There’s gonna be a little bit of Zero Year in there, you know as well. [You know] some of that stuff, especially with Nygma. And there’s another one but if I tell you what it is it really does spoil the story.”
This suggests that Cory Michael Smith’s Riddler will be an extremely destructive and powerful player in season 5, although we won’t speculate on how that might come to pass, given the events of the season 4 finale.
Gotham Season 5 will arrive in early 2019. We have more info on it here.
