HBO presented the family vacation hot spot Westworld to life. Fox is bringing AI home to the family. Heather V. Regnier, who minored in neuroscience before her distinctive screenwriting talents brought her to It’s a Wonderful Death (2008) and Sleepy Hollow (2013), is putting her scientific knowledge to work in the new family A.I. family drama Familiar. 20th Century Fox TV bought the series and will develop it into an hour-long drama.
Familiar is set in 2029, which is the when A.I. Robotics will go mainstream under the tech company Luminary. The company is owned by the Wiercinskis, a dysfunctional family who are dealing with their own short circuits.
Familiar will be executive produced by Regnier with Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Albert Page.
Familiar will be written by Regnier, who wrote for Sleepy Hollow for three seasons and Falling Skies. She is also a sketch comedian and writer whose comic works include Let’s Do This! and Sketch Cram.
