When Fortitude series 2 was announced, it was clear there would need to be some new characters brought in to replace the ones that popped their clogs in the first run of Sky Atlantic’s frosty supernatural murder mystery series.
Now, we’ve heard who some of these new additions to the cast will be. There are new character descriptions yet, but we now know that Robert Sheenan (Misfits, Mortal Instruments), Michelle Fairley (Game Of Thrones, In The Heart Of The Sea, previously Mr Sheenan’s mum in Misfits) and Ken Stott (The Missing, The Hobbit series, Rebus back in the day) have all signed up for parts.
Other new additions included Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow, Vantage Point) and Parminder Nagra (Bend It Like Beckham, 129 episodes of ER). This lot will join returnee stars Sofie Gråbøl, Richard Dormer, Luke Treadaway, Darren Boyd, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Mia Jexen, Alexandra Moen, Verónica Echegui, Sienna Guillory and Ramon Tikaram.
Simon Donald – writer and creator of Fortitude – said this: “Sky and Pivot are letting me return to the Arctic withFortitude II. Given what happened in our story previously this may be somewhat reckless. But with Dennis Quaid, Michelle Fairley, Ken Stott, Parminder Nagra and Robert Sheehan to play with – somewhat reckless should get thrillingly intense.”
Fortitude series 2: start date, UK and USA
The exact start date for Fortitude series 2 is currently unknown. The second run of chilly murder-based entertainment is filming at the moment, and is believed to aiming for broadast on Sky Atlantic in the UK and on Pivot in the USA some time in late 2016.
Fortitude series 2: story details
Here’s the brief official synopsis for Fortitude series 2…
“In Fortitude nothing, and no-one, is ever what they seem. A fresh murder rocks the community and plunges it into turmoil. And out in the stunning icy wilderness, nature is growing even more unpredictable, deadly and dangerous.”
Fortitude series 2: initial announcement
Pivot (a Participant Media company) and Sky Atlantic confirmed the news of Fortitude series 2’s existence back in October 2015, to tie in with the series 1 finale.
“From the first episode, audiences responded to the incredibly rich world Simon Donald created, where nature and civilization collide with catastrophic results,” said Pivot head honcho Kent Rees.
Fortitude hasn’t been shy about offing its stars over the course of the first run, so much so that fans are already scratching their heads at who’s left in that amazing cast (which featured, let’s remember, Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Sofie Grabol, Richard Dormer and Christopher Eccleston) to return for the second series. Er, our best idea? Make it a prequel. About the mammoth.
Series creator Simon Donald will surely return to writing and executive producer duties, while we’ve been told to expect Jeff Skoll, Patrick Spence, Frith Tiplady, Anne Mensah and Lizzie Gray and Chris Loveall as executive producers as well, representing the various companies involved.
