Euphoria: HBO Picks Up Teen Drama Starring Zendaya

HBO gives a series order to Euphoria, based on an Israeli series of the same name.

Amongst a slew of big announcements at Summer TCA, HBO announced a series order for teen drama Euphoria. Based on an Israeli series of the same name, Euphoria comes from screenwriter Sam Levinson, who most recently teamed with HBO on the TV film Wizard of Lies.Zendaya (Spider-Man Homecoming) will play the lead role in the series.

The series is a high school drama that follows a group of students as they “navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship.” Levinson is set to pen all the scripts in season one.

The creators of the original series, Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin, are attached as executive producers. Musician and actor Drake and his DJ, Future The Prince, are also attached as executive producers. It’s the first time Drake has been credited as a producer; He had a memorable run as an actor on Degrassi: The Next Generation before his music career blossomed. 

The cast of Euphoria includes Maude Apatow, Brian “Astro” Bradley, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, and Sydney Sweeney.
