Talk about John Barrowman returning to the world of Doctor Who comes around quite often. Barrowman himself is often the sources of these rumours, stories and discussions.
Today is one of those days, with Barrowman talking to Doctor Who: The Fan Show about his desire to see Captain Jack Harkness appearing alongside Peter Capaldi’s twelfth Doctor. Here’s what he said:
“I actually would like to see Peter Capaldi’s Doctor meet Jack. The Doctor’s a little bit older, perfect – Jack’s matured a little bit. Would that spark still be there? Would Jack still feel the same about him?
“Would he think, ‘I’m not sure about your cape there, sir. What happened to the coat? Why a cape? Why have you gone all Dracula on me!?'”
Indeed, the combination of these two characters would be a very interesting one. As things stand, though, there has been no confirmation that Barrowman is returning to the live-action Who universe.
Barrowman does talk about returning quite a lot. And despite the news that he’s now set to appear on every superhero show on The CW – walking into rooms as Malcolm Merlyn in a variety of spooky ways – he still thinks there is space in his schedule.
“The answer is always absolutely”, Barrowman told the Radio Times on the topic of returning to Doctor Who, back in September. “It’s a show and genre that changed my life; I love it dearly and if I’m asked I would do it at the drop of a hat.”
“And also my producers here in the US for the show I’m on at the moment, Arrow, they’ve said if that did happen we’d let you do it.”
A few months before that, Barrowman commented on his potential Doctor Who return during an appearance on The One Show: “It’s not up to me, but keep watching”, he said.
He added: “I’d love to, keep watching. Keep watching, I’d love to! I don’t know!”
We’ll keep you posted as more news comes to light.
