Sony Pictures Televions has created a YouTube channel for Breaking Bad‘s tenth anniversary.
Yes, it’s really been ten years. And no, the show didn’t already have a YouTube channel. It was different times back in the distant past of 2008 – 2013
The channel actually launched three days ago with the official channel launch trailer. Now it’s begun in earnest with an hour-long interview with creator Vince Gilligan conducted by The Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick.
The YouTube channel is just the first of what’s sure to be many tributes to the classic series for its tenth anniversary. The channel, itself, will gather and optimize existing video clips from the show’s original run.
Additionally fans will be able to submit new tributes, mash-ups, and other video content for potential inclusion on the channel by using the hashtag #MyBreakingBadVideo.
A YouTube channel is long overdue and will do a lot to keep the fandom community for one of TV’s best ever dramas thriving.
Breaking Bad was absolutely one of the best dramas of all time. Its central story was so elemental, so basically Biblical that it’s hard to imagine it ever falling out of favor. The show started on January 20, 2008 as the story of Walter White (played by multiple time Emmy winner Bryan Cranston) – a high school chemsitry teacher diagnosed with cancer. Walt decides to begin manufacturing and selling meth to provide for his family after he’s gone and that sets him down a dark path to oblivion.
Gilligan always described the desired outcome of the show as having turned “Mr. Chips into Scarface.” With the creation of the show’s YouTube channel, future fans will get to experience that transformation like we lucky few late 2000s-ers did.
Hopefully, this video of Huell waiting for an hour will find its way to a permanent Breaking Bad channel home.
