Mild spoilers ahead for Iron Fist season 2, and Daredevil season 3!
Now that the second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist is live and streaming on Netflix, many viewers have noted the appearance of a character called Sam (James Chen) during the run, and correctly guessed that this was in fact a first appearance by the Man Who Will Be Blindspot, Samuel Chung. Subsequently, Iron Fist showrunner M. Raven Metzner seems to have gone on the record with a confirmation.
“The characters name on the call sheet is Samuel Chung. [James Chen] is a great actor and a great guy and I love the character Blindspot. You can infer the rest,” he replied to a fan during a recent Q&A sesh (via CBR).
But will Samuel Chung’s alter ego be a part of Iron Fist in the future? Netflix hasn’t yet revealed whether it’s willing to throw more money at a third season, although it must be relieved that the reviews for season 2 have been solid, especially in comparison with the reaction from both fans and critics after season one hit the streaming service early in 2017.
Metzner appears to be a big fan of the character, but Blindspot has been tightly linked with Daredevil since his comics introduction in 2015, filling out the role of a Chinese gymnast-turned-invisible sidekick for Matt Murdock, so we could even see more development with Blindspot in Daredevil Season 3, which is rumored to be arriving on Netflix next month. It’s certainly a possibility, anyway! A ‘resurrected’ Daredevil is going to need plenty of help dealing with the return of Fisk, and the emergence of a new threat in Bullseye.
Failing a Daredevil appearance, it looks like a potential third season of Iron Fist may have room for him. We’ll keep you updated on Netflix’s plans, either way. It’s likely to announce a decision on a third season of Iron Fist in the next month.
