Black Superman Costume Coming to DC TV Arrowverse Elseworlds Crossover

When Tyler Hoechlin shows up as Superman on the Arrowverse crossover, Elseworlds, he'll be in a black Superman suit.

Black Costume Superman

There’s a lot to look forward to when it comes to the upcoming DC TV Arrowverse crossover, known as “Elseworlds” kicks off in December. One of the key appeals here is not only the eagerly anticipated introduction of Ruby Rose as Batwoman (not to mention the apparent elements of Mr. Freeze’s origin story and  a villain from Arkham Asylum ), but we’re also getting the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and the introduction of Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane.

But it looks like that for at least some of Hoechlin’s screen time as Superman, he won’t be wearing the traditional red and blue costume. Instead, he’ll be in the kind of black and silver number usually associated with the one he worse after he returned from the dead after getting his caped ass handed to him by Doomsday. The suit has only been hinted at in live action once before (in an episode of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, if you can believe that), and very nearly made an appearance in the Justice League movie, but other than that, it has only graced the comics page and animation.

So while it might be fun to assume that the reason Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman didn’t show up on Supergirl at all last season is because he was busy taking a dirt nap after getting killed by Doomsday and here he is, fresh from the grave in that snappy black and silver costume…that probably isn’t what is actually happening here. Instead, this is probably one of several alternate Earths we’re going to visit in the course of the “Elseworlds” crossover.

The clue here is that both Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell are wearing matching boots, which means they’re probably sporting some black uniforms of their own. Since those boots have some kinda menacing looking studs highlighting them, something tells me that the black suited Superman is leading some kind of “eeeevil” Justice League here. I could be wrong, of course, but it’s all I can think of right now.

Then again, here’s some more context for what Grant and Stephen are wearing…which makes them look like friendly bandits or extras from Grease or something.
