The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog has revealed the names who appear to be leading the running for the title role in Marvel’s upcoming movie, The First Avenger: Captain America. The film, which is being directed by Joe Johnston, already has a release date of July 22nd 2011, and as a result, production is set to begin in a few months time.
But just who will be playing Steve Rogers and his alter-ego, Captain America?
The shortlist right now appears to feature John Krasinski (Jim from the US version of The Office), Michael Cassidy (who previously auditioned for Superman), Patrick Flueger (The 4400 – a show we really need to write more about soon), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) and Wilson Bethal (Generation Kill). Heat Vision also notes that Chace Crawford is in the running, but that Garret Hedlund – next seen in Disney’s Tron: Legacy – has dropped out.
The actors still in the running for the role next have to head to Marvel’s Manhattan Beach complex to do screen tests, and while that doesn’t guarantee that any of them will ultimately win the role – there’s nothing to stop Marvel bringing in a fresh truckload of actors to audition, after all – those are the names who appear to be gravitating to the top of the list.
We’ll keep you posted, and in the meantime, here‘s the post at Heat Vision.
