Welcome to our brand new start-of-the-month guide to what’s coming up in April in the world of Geek. If you like this, then we’ll start doing it regularly from now on. Just let us know, eh?
The big film of the month, if you live in the UK, is Iron Man 2, which seems to be sneaking out a week ahead of its American release here. It’s being advertised as being out on 30th April (7th May in the US), and is fairly comfortably the must-see of the month.
Also at the movies, we Brits finally get Kevin Smith’s Cop Out on 16th April, while the underwhelming Clash Of The Titans arrives on the 2nd.
Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut Whip It! hits UK screens from 7th April, and keep an eye out too for Robert Carlyle in I Know You Know, which starts a limited release from Friday 9th. That’s the same day that the David Baddiel-penned movie The Infidel is released, too.
Further highlights? Keep a look out for Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s drama Cemetary Junction on the 14th, Roman Polanski’s The Ghost on the 16th (the same day Kick-Ass arrives in the States, incidentally), and the union of Steve Carell and Tina Fey in Date Night on the 21st.
Friday 23rd brings two more films to keep an eye out for. The UK finally gets Mike Judge’s Extract after a further release delay, and Neil Marshall’s ass-kicking Centurion makes its debut too.
We cover TV in more detail every Friday on the site, so we’ll keep this short and to the point. Doctor Who, Ashes To Ashes, The Pacific and Jonathan Creek all screen over Easter (more details on those in tomorrow’s update), and V arrives on UK screens via the Sci-Fi Channel (it’s still called that over here!) on 13th April.
In the US, The Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, Glee, House and The Office all return from their latest breaks too.
Not too bad a month for gaming releases. There’s a bizarre-looking PC game of Shutter Island planned for the 9th, the Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City PS3 release and Splinter Cell: Conviction on the 16th.
Dead To Rights Retribution turns up on the 23rd, and then it’s Super Street Fighter IV and 2010 FIFA World Cup: South Africa on the 30th. There’s an Iron Man 2 tie-in game out on the same day.
DVD & BLU-RAY
The big release of the month is inevitably James Cameron’s Avatar, which turns up on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK from 26th April. Don’t forget a more extensive version is planned for November.
There’s also The Descent 2, The Wonders Of The Solar System and Being Human series 2 on the 12th April. On the 19th, there’s The Box, The Thick Of It series 3 and Bitch Slap. And then the 26th, as well as Avatar, brings Mad Men season 3, Supernatural season 5 volume 1, Doctor Who: The Lost Interviews, an extended cut of Carriers and Will Ferrell’s one man show, You’re Welcome America.
