Watch Shia LaBeouf as John McEnroe in First Trailer for Borg vs McEnroe

Borg/McEnroe will tell the story of the rivalry between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe. Shia LaBeouf and Stellan Skarsgard are on board.

How’s this for a world-class match: John McEnroe, tennis bad boy and all-time great, and Shia LaBeouf, bad boy of Hollywood and former A-lister on the career rebound. Shockingly neither buddy comedy nor new season of celebrity rehab, LaBeouf is set to portray the tennis icon in a new biopic. It’s quite possible LaBeouf has been method acting in preperation to channel the rage of a young Johnny Mac for a long time.

The first trailer for Borg vs McEnroe, the feature film directorial debut for Danish filmmaker Janus Metz Pedersen, is finally here. Watch it below!

The film will chronicle the “fire and ice” rivalry between tennis stars John McEnroe, a notorious hot head on the court, and Bjorn Borg, a far calmer player, from 1978 to 1981 where the two met in 14 matches and split them. The 1980 Wimbledon final between Borg and McEnroe is widely considered to be one of the all-time great matches in tennis history.

LaBeouf’s career has taken a downturn after a series of public outbursts, but the 29-year old actor is trying to remake. His most recent film credit was 2016’s American Honey.
