Uma Thurman and Christopher Walken Join Robert De Niro in The War With Grandpa

The War With Grandpa will reunite Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken for the first time since Deer Hunter, and Uma Thurman

The War With Grandpa will have a stellar cast of acting pioneers. Robert De Niro will be reunited with Christopher Walken (King of New York, Dead Zone, Communion, Pulp Fiction) for the first time since Deer Hunter, and Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill), who last worked with De Niro on Mad Dog and Glory.  The comedy also cast Rob Riggle (The Hangover, The Daily Show), according to Deadline.

The War With Grandpa will be directed by Tim Hill. The film will be financed by Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films CEO Randall Emmett, George Furla and Tri G LLC with Marro Films.

The War With Grandpa is based on the 1984 children’s book by Robert Kimmel Smith. It tells the story of a young man who gives up his bedroom to his grandfather after his grandmother dies, and then pulls a series of pranks to drive the old man out.

“Peter is thrilled that Grandpa is coming to live with his family,” reads the official description for the book from Amazon.

“That is, until Grandpa moves right into Peter’s room, forcing him upstairs. Peter loves his grandpa but wants his room back. He has no choice but to declare war! With the help of his friends, Peter devises outrageous plans to make Grandpa surrender the room. But Grandpa is tougher than he looks. Rather than give in, Grandpa plans to get even. They used to be such great pals. Has their war gone too far?”

The first draft of the screenplay was written by Lisa Addario and Joey Syracuse. Matt Ember and Tom Astle are reportedly polishing it up.

De Niro will next star in The Weinstein Company’s Hands of Stone. He is currently working on Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming gangster movie The Irishman and The Comedian, which costars Leslie Mann.

Hill directed the films Muppets from Space, Max Keeble’s Big Move, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Hop. He started out as the writer, director and storyboard artist for the animated series Rocko’s Modern Life.

The War with Grandpa begins production on Monday.
