The Matrix 4: Keanu Reeves Leaves The Door Open

While there a no known plans for a new The Matrix movie, Keanu Reeves won't rule out returning...

Rumors of belated sequels to Keanu Reeves movies seem to be a bit of a thing right now. Bill & Ted 3 is the one that he seems most keen to make, given that he continues to maintain that the story is pretty much in place for a new film. But every now and then, some story pops up about a possible Speed 3, or The Matrix 4. More than latter than the former.

Reeves was in the UK doing promotional work for John Wick: Chapter 2, and he came face to face with Yahoo UK as part of that. And the folks there quizzed him about returning to The Matrix at some point. His answer? Possibly.

“The Wachowskis [writers/directors of the trilogy] would have to be involved,” he insisted. “They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not? People die, stories don’t, people in stories don’t.”

Which doesn’t say very much really, short of not slamming the door in the face of the idea. The two sequels, though, were nowhere near as well received as the first film. And whilst The Matrix is regarded as something really rather special, the whole franchise has been off our screens since 2003. And belated sequels don’t seem to be doing too well at the moment.
