The Lodgers: Trailer and Release Date for Gothic Ghost Movie

The trailer for The Lodgers shows siblings dealing with a family curse in a gigantic Gothic estate that’s overrun with evil spirits.

While the film industry is unlikely to tread new territory in the haunted house genre, one entry in The Lodgers seems to be banking on its atmospheric Gothic estate ambience, intriguing hallucination sequences and maddening isolation akin to The Shining. However, the evil-imperiled characters of this tale are a pair of siblings who have inherited a curse.

In the director’s chair for The Lodgers is Brian O’Malley (Let Us Prey), who works off a script by screenwriter David Turpin. The film is a production of Tailored Films.

The Lodgers Trailer

The Lodgers trailers drop you into a morose 1920s Ireland setting in a sprawling, but decaying estate inherited by two young siblings Rachel (Charlotte Vega) and Edward (Bill Milner) after their parents were apparently driven to suicide. However, the place turns out to be one hell of a white elephant, connected to an ancient curse placed on the siblings’ family; one that comes with the bizarre caveat of having to be in bed by midnight when the estate is taken over on a nightly basis by malevolent entities known as the Lodgers.

Moreover, the family curse – connected to incest – is apparently leading Edward to make (extremely aggressive) advances toward Rachel. Thus, it’s up to Rachel’s would-be suitor – and army vet – Sean (Eugene Simon) to render aid in this family predicament.

The Lodgers Cast

The Lodgers has corralled an interesting cast, starring surging Spanish actress Charlotte Vega, who has a potential breakthrough role set in September’s Michael Keaton/Dylan O’Brien actioner American Assassin. Her co-star Bill Milner recently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, co-starred alongside Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams in the Netflix-exclusive film iBoy and notably played young Magneto in X-Men: First Class.

They are joined here by Eugene Simon, whose role as the mentally malleable Lancel Lannister on Game of Thrones touched the movie-relevant topic of incest on a few occasions. He recently appeared on the miniseries Genius. Plus, another Thrones alumnus in David Bradley (The Strain, Harry Potter series) appears, along with Moe Dunford (Vikings), Roisin Murphy (100 Code) and Deirdre O’Kane (Googlebox Ireland).

The Lodgers Release Date

The Lodgers will have you screaming at the siblings to call a real estate agent when it premieres in theaters and on demand on February 23.
