The LEGO Movie Sequel Gets New Director

The LEGO Movie Sequel is still a little way off, and it has a new director now.

Everybody went bananas for The LEGO Movie, right? They went so bananas for it that The LEGO Movie 2 was given the go-ahead almost immediately. Not bad for a weird concept that most of us didn’t think was gonna be good, let alone “awesome” in the first place.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are back to write the sequel, which is now (appropriately enough) known as The LEGO Movie Sequel. They’re not directing this time aorund, though, instead it’s Mike Mitchell (Trolls) who will sit in the chair (or whatever it is one does when directing a LEGO movie). Rob Schrab (Community, The Mindy Project) had previously been in line to direct. We got the  news courtesy of The Tracking Board.

There’s not much else to tell at the moment, other than the fact that it takes place four years after the original in “a weird, dystopian version of Bricksburg.” Sure. Why not?

The Lego Movie Sequel Release Date

But while The LEGO Movie Sequel was originally set to premiere in 2018, it has now been pushed back to an unspecified date in 2019. Lego Batman arrives on February 10, 2017 with Ninjago to follow on September 17, 2017.
