Terminator 6 Will “Dismiss” All but the Basic Characters

Arnold Schwarzenegger confirms that Terminator 6 is stripping things right back...

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been reiterating the state of play on the planned Terminator 6. It’s pretty well known now that James Cameron, the writer/director of the first two films, is back involved in the new movie. He’s developing what’s planned as a trilogy of films, although given his commitments to directing four Avatar sequels, it’s Tim Miller (Deadpool) who’s helming Terminator 6.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back for the new film, with Linda Hamilton reprising her role as Sarah Connor, effectively meaning the last three movies are being ignored.

In a new interview with Business Insider, Arnie has doubled down on this too, confirmed that “I think Cameron and Tim came up with a concept where they can continue on with the T-800 but make a whole new movie. What they are doing now with this one is basically to just take a few very basic characters, like Linda Hamilton’s character and my character, and dismiss everything else. Just move away from all these rules of the timeline and other characters.”

Which is the plan. As for one of the reasons why the complex time travel shenanigans of Terminator: Genisys were being ignored? “It’s hard to come up with new ideas when you stay within that framework”, Arnie tactfully said. Terminator 6 will, instead, be a simpler beast, narrative-wise.

The plan is to have the film in cinemas for the summer of 2019, with production beginning early next year.
