Ted Bundy Netflix Movie Starring Zac Efron: Release Date and Trailer

Zac Efron takes a turn as serial killer Ted Bundy in Netflix movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

It’s Ted Bundy’s turn in the pop culture true crime spotlight.  Bundy, the unusually charismatic serial killer who terrorized the Pacific Northwest for years, is the subject of the upcoming biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Zac Efron is set to star as the monster himself.

The film is directed by Joe Berlinger, who co-directed the Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills documentaries with the late Bruce Sinofsky, and Metallica: Some Kind Of MonsterBrother’s Keeper and Whitey: United States of America V. James J. Bulger. He recently directed the recent documentary Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru.

Berlinger also had a hand in the recent Ted Bundy documentary for Netflix, Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. Here is everything we know about the scripted version of the Bundy story.

The latest trailer for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile seems to complement the previous one, this time focused more on the aftermath of Bundy’s crimes and the effect it has on those in his life, notably Liz Kendall (Lily Collins).

Below is the first trailer, and it’s a touch more buoyant than one would expect. I know Ted Bundy was handsome, guys, but…sheesh.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile Cast

Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory, Hidden Figures) has joined the cast of Ted Bundy movie, aka Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. According to THR, he will portray Larry Simpson, the lead prosecutor of the 1979 Miami trial that finally convicted Bundy.

Parsons joins an already impressive cast…

Zac Efron will play Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile. The film is told from the point of view of Elizabeth Kloepfer, the woman who ultimately got Bundy arrested, who will be played by Lily Collins. Westworld‘s Angela Sarafyan will play Elizabeth Kloepfer’s friend Joanna. John Maklovich plays Edward Cowart, the judge at the 1979 trial.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile Story

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will tell the story of Bundy, who killed more than 30 people in the 1970s, through the eyes of his longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer. She defended Bundy for a long time, until she turned him in. 

Bundy’s live-in lover Elizabeth told police about the strange things she saw, including crutches, a meat cleaver, surgical gloves, a sack full of women’s clothing and the plaster of Paris masks he used to lure victims on his murder spree.

The Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile screenplay was written by Michael Werwie. The film will be produced by Nicolas Chartier and Ara Keshishian Voltage films alongside Costigan for COTA Films, and Efron’s Ninjas Runnin’ Wild banner will produce alongside Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett. Werwie and Jonathan Deckter will be executive producing.
