You clearly shouldn’t believe a single word we say. Just under a fortnight ago, we were reporting that Lionsgate had confirmed Sylvester Stallone as the director of The Expendables 2. Now, though, the man himself has confirmed that he won’t be directing the film. We’d trust him over us, to be honest.
One of the reasons Stallone was believed to have helmed the first film was to help keep the costs down (it didn’t have a distributor at first), but for this second helping of The Expendables, he’ll be seeking someone else to direct. Deadline is reporting that he’s “heavily involved” in putting a shortlist of directors together, and that Stallone is looking to lure both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis back, presumably in bigger roles this time around.
Furthermore, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews are expected to be back as well, although Deadline notes that their deals haven’t yet been done. “The film is also expected to broaden its coterie of action heroes,” Deadline also reports.
More on The Expendables 2 as we get it.
