Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse – Australian Spidey Didn’t Make the Cut

Sadly, Aussie Spider-Man didn't make it into the final line-up.

Well, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is doing very well! The critically acclaimed, Lord and Miller produced animated Spider-Man movie has been a hit, and offered us a glimpse of many of the possibilites that the Marvel multiverse has to offer, but was there room for one more…?

No. No, there wasn’t. But that didn’t stop co-director Rodney Rothman trying.

“We created an Australian Spider-Man,” he revealed to CinemaBlend. “He showed up with the other Spiders, and he said he was 24 hours ahead, and then he glitched to death. So everyone was going to be like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be 24 hours.’ That was the official ticking clock.”

Ironically, there wasn’t enough time to include Aussie Spidey, though, with the idea arriving just too late in the day.

“When I handed that draft of the script in I was nearly fired, mainly just because it was at a time in production when the idea of adding another Spider-Man… it demonstrated a profound lack of understanding of film production,” Rothman explained with a laugh.

We did get Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Peter Parker (and Peter B. Parker), Peni Parker, Spider-Ham, and Spider-Noir, of course, but maybe Australian Spider-Man will get another shot at joining the Spider-Verse in a sequel (not to mention all the other Spider-Men of the Spider-Verse)? You’d imagine Sony are raring to make one right about now, as the film made over $35 million just within the first three days of its release, stateside.
