Last week, it emerged that Sony and Sam Raimi were heading in the direction of The Black Cat as the villain in the upcoming Spider-Man 4, albeit with a rumour that there may be room for a second foe in there too.
However, while nobody seems to have been in a hurry to deny that The Black Cat was the villain of choice for Spidey 4, the rumour that Rachel McAdams was lined up for the part has now been shot down. By McAdams herself, too.
She told Entertainment Weekly “That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” before going on to add “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.”
Sony has also confirmed that the story was just an Internet rumour, no doubt spread by websites that seem to delight in reporting every rumour and interesting piece of information that can lay their greasy paws on. Ahem.
You can read the Entertainment Weekly piece here. Can we request now that if Rachel McAdams isn’t to play The Black Cat, that Megan Fox doesn’t get the call?
