Secret Life of Pets 2 Trailers, Cast, Release Date, Plot, and News

Illumination will leave the toilet seat up again for Secret Life of Pets 2, which will star Harrison Ford.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 has set course for a summer 2019 release. The film, is, of course, a sequel to Illumination Entertainment and Universal’s 2016 animated blockbuster hit, which reaped substantial box office rewards, with a worldwide total of over $875 million.

The sequel will see the return of cast members, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress and Bobby Moynihan. They will be joined by newcomers in Tiffany Haddish (The Last O.G.), Nick Kroll (Big Mouth) and Pete Holmes (Crashing).

Intriguingly (and understandably), Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio) is also amongst the arrivals, set to voice the role of main dog Max, who was previously portrayed by the scandal-embroiled comedian, Louis C.K. Additionally, the sequel will arrive with the distinction of being the very first the very first animated movie to feature the unmistakable voice of Harrison Ford, who fields a lead role.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 Plot

Here’s the official synopsis:

Terrier Max (Patton Oswalt) is coping with some major life changes. His owner (Ellie Kemper) is now married and has a toddler, Liam. Max is so worried about protecting the boy that he develops a nervous tic. On a family trip to a farm, Max and mutt Duke (Eric Stonestreet) encounter canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes and a terrifying turkey, all of which only elevates Max’s anxiety. Luckily, Max gets some guidance from veteran farm dog Rooster (Harrison Ford, making his animated-film debut), who pushes Max to ditch his neuroses, find his inner alpha, and give Liam a little more freedom.

Meanwhile, while her owner is away, plucky Pomeranian Gidget (Jenny Slate) tries to rescue Max’s favorite toy from a cat-packed apartment with a little help from her feline friend, Chloe (Lake Bell), who has discovered the joys of catnip.

And crazy-but-cute bunny Snowball (Kevin Hart) gets delusions of grandeur that he’s an actual superhero after his owner Molly starts dressing him in superhero pajamas. But when Daisy (Tiffany Haddish), a fearless Shih Tzu, shows up to ask for Snowball’s help on a dangerous mission, he’ll have to summon the courage to become the hero he’s only been pretending to be.

Can Max, Snowball, Gidget and the rest of the gang find the inner courage to face their biggest fears?

2016’s The Secret Life of Pets, directed by Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, made $368.3 million at the domestic box office. The animated film – studio Illumination’s second franchise after its hit flick Despicable Me spawned Despicable Me 2 and Minions – held the No. 1 box office spot for two consecutive weeks and had the best opening for an original film, animated or otherwise.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 is directed by Chris Renaud (Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax), this time on his own, having worked off a script by Brian Lynch (Minions). The sequel is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator, Janet Healy.
