In the grand tradition of Toy Story and The Secret Life of Petsin which things come to life when people aren’t around, Sony will introduce the somewhat more adult-oriented animated feature Sausage Party, which speculates on how hot dogs and other comestibles would feel upon discovering that they were meant to be eaten after leaving the grocery store shelves. The film is billed proudly as “the first R-rated CG animated movie.”
Sausage Party includes characters ranging from the top-billed male hot dogs and female buns (with the obvious ensuing sexual innuendo), to potatoes being skinned alive, and non-perishables offering advice on the eating behavior of humans. There’s even an enjoyably disgusting moment shared from the life of a toilet paper roll. Yes, Sony went there… take a look.
Sausage Party features the vocal talents of some of film’s most famed adult humorists such as Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Paul Rudd, as well as other recognizable names like James Franco, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek. The animated film is set for release on September 2.
