Even though it’s been a good few years now since the Twilight movie franchise drew to a close (with Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2), chatter about another screen adventure continues to bubble up. Articles such as this one don’t help, of course.
But then Robert Pattinson, who played Edward Cullen across the five films in the series, has been asked about potentially reprising the role in a future film. And it seems that he may well be up for it.
In an interview with Yahoo, he queried “so, I’ll get my own spin-off?”, before adding “I’m always kind of curious. Anything where there’s a mass audience – or seemingly an audience for it – I always like the idea of subverting people’s expectations. There could be some radical ways of doing it, which could be quite fun. It’s always difficult when there’s no source material.”
He’s almost right too, as there are problems here. Stephanie Meyer hasn’t penned any new Twilight books, and the four she’s written have thus been filmed. She had planned to write a book exploring the story solely from Edward’s perspective, but abandoned it when part of the planned book leaked onto the internet. Still, at least there may be something there to explore, although it’d still at heart be the same story. That said, given the box office returns of the Twilight movies, it’d be crazy to rule out all concerned going that way.
There have been no formal announcements regarding more Twilight films, but if there’s a way Lionsgate could make them happen, you can bet it will…
