Pacific Rim Uprising DVD/Blu-ray Release Date and Bonus Features

The surprisingly fun Pacific Rim Uprising is now heading for its home release. Here are all the details you'll need...

When news of a sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 kaiju smash-em-up Pacific Rim surfaced a couple of years back, excitement among the film’s hardcore fans was palpable. Further news soon reached us that del Toro wouldn’t be returning to direct Pacific Rim prising, though, and we suddenly weren’t sure what to expect from the follow-up outing.

The new man calling the shots was announced to be Steven S. DeKnight, who had only previously helmed TV, including Daredevil, Smallville, and Angel. What would DeKnight do with the CGI-heavy world of del Toro’s Jaegers? We were very curious to find out.

In Uprising, previous star Charlie Hunnam was replaced with the arguably much more agreeable presence of John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Attack The Block) and he was joined by Scott Eastwood (the eerily uncanny-looking son of Clint). Returning Pacific Rim vets Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and Burn Gorman rounded out the cast, along with newcomers Tian Jing (Kong: Skull Island) and Adria Arjona (Emerald City), and all of them – in this writer’s opinion – gave the whole thing a bloody good go, delivering a film that didn’t exactly reinvent the wheel, but that did offer a surprisingly fun night out at the cinema, all things considered.

You’ll be able to grab a copy of Pacific Rim Uprising via 4K UHD, 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Steelbook on June 19 and digital some time before that. There’ll likely be a few different sleeves available across different retailers. As always, we’ll keep our hopes up for a possible lenticular cover here at Den Of Geek, if one’s available. They’re just cooler; that’s a scientific fact, people (please do not research this).
