Director Ridley Scott has had a busy few weeks, courtesy of the last minute decision to excise Kevin Spacey from his new film – All The Money In The World – and replace him with Christopher Plummer. Plummer is taking on the role of John Paul Getty in the movie now, and Scott — who started reshoots on November 20 — will have a rough version of the film available in a few days time to ensure it can still qualify for Academy Awards and Golden Globes consideration
The release date remains December 22 and, incredibly, there’s already a new trailer available (see below).
Kudos to Scott for taking such swift action to preserve his work and the work of the hundreds of people who labored on the movie, while demonstrating that the kind of behavior Spacey is alleged to have conducted will have consequences going forward.
Here’s the synopsis…
ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD follows the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Christopher Plummer) to pay the ransom. When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.
