New Superman movie pushed back to 2013

Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel has been moved from 2012 to summer 2013, it's been confirmed.

While no official release date was ever announced, the plan for Warner Bros’ latest reboot of the Superman franchise appeared to indicate a December 2012 for the next movie.

The new film, Man Of Steel, will see Henry Cavill in the title role, with Zack Snyder directing. But given that Warner Bros already has the first of two Hobbit movies arriving at the end of 2012, the studio has made the decision to move Superman’s return to June 14th, 2013. It wants to space its blockbusters out.

What the ramification is for the legal case surrounding Superman, which has apparently accelerated Warner Bros’ plans to get a new movie into production, is unclear. We can’t profess to know the full ins and outs, but the general feeling had been that Warner needed Superman back on the big screen in 2012, partly to do with rights issues. Whether things have changed there, or we got the wrong end of the stick, is unclear (from what we’re told, it might be that the film has to be on screen in 2013).

The film is still set to head into production later this year. And we’ll keep you posted on it.
