Just last week, Sony took its planned Bad Boys sequel – Bad Boys For Life – off its release schedule. This followed the project losing director Joe Carnahan earlier this year, after he’d penned the screenplay for the new movie.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence had been set to return for the new film, but a replacement director still hasn’t been found. And according to Martin Lawrence at least, this particular project is now very unlikely to make it through the system.
“I don’t think we’re going to get one,” he told Entertainment Weekly with regards a Bad Boys sequel. “Not the way everything turning out. Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen”. Will Smith, in fact, has Disney’s Aladdin film on his immediate roster, and then presumably he’s jumping straight onto Suicide Squad 2, assuming Warner Bros can get that one moving.
Sony had intended to make both Bad Boys 3 and Bad Boys 4, with dates revealed for both movies. It’d be a brave person now to put hard cash on either of them happening…
