Jacob’s Ladder Remake Release Date and Trailer

A remake of the 1990 film, Jacob's Ladder, provides a modern update to a classic horror tale.

This may be one of my flashbacks, but a Jacob’s Ladder remake is in the works from the same people who might bring you a remake of Angel Heart. Studio LD Entertainment promises that Jacob’s Ladder  will be an homage to the classic 1990 supernatural thriller, rather than a remake, meaning that it will take place in the present and deal with contemporary issues.

Jacob’s Ladder will be directed by David M. Rosenthal. The screenplay was written by Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) and Sarah Thorp.

The new version will be a “modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.”

The original Jacob’s Ladder was produced by Carolco Pictures, written by Bruce Joel Rubin, directed by Adrian Lyne and starre Tim Robbins, Elizabeth Peña, Macauley Culkin and Danny Aiello. Jacob Singer was a Vietnam vet who thought he was having flashbacks and a bad reaction to some real bad acid. It didn’t do that well when it came out in 1990, but it’s gone on to cult classic status. “After returning home from the Vietnam War, veteran Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) struggles to maintain his sanity,” reads the official synopsis of the original 1990 film.

“Plagued by hallucinations and flashbacks, Singer rapidly falls apart as the world and people around him morph and twist into disturbing images. His girlfriend, Jezzie (Elizabeth Peña), and ex-wife, Sarah (Patricia Kalember), try to help, but to little avail. Even Singer’s chiropractor friend, Louis (Danny Aiello), fails to reach him as he descends into madness.”

Likewise, the Jacob’s Ladder remake trades the Vietnam War for the Iraq War, with Ealy playing the eponymous tormented vet. The new film is produced by Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon and Jennifer Monroe at LD Entertainment alongside Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta of Gaeta/Rosenzweig Films, who made the action pic Transit and remade Fright Night. They are also developing a remake of the 1987 satanic horror classic Angel Heart.
