Indiana Jones 5 Won’t Have Shia LaBeouf’s Mutt In It

A brief update on Indiana Jones 5 brings the crushing news that the character of Mutt won't be in it.

Delayed from a summer 2019 release date to the summer of 2020, Indiana Jones 5 is still chugging along, but it’s taking its place in the queue of projects for director Steven Spielberg. Cynics may suggest that this is one film that won’t ever happen, but rest assured, cynics we ain’t.

Working on the screenplay for the film is the returning David Koepp, and he’s thrown a few clues as to the movie’s progress in a new EW interview. The big one – albeit not a massive surprise, considering – is that the character of Mutt, played by Shia LaBeouf last time around, will not be back. Even though Mutt appeared heir apparent to the Indy throne, LaBeouf’s views on the last view all but sealed his fate here.

“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say,” Koepp said. “And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.”

Told you.

As for the progress of the project, “we’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr Spielberg and Mr Ford… I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with.”

Spielberg is in post-production on The Post and Ready Player One right now, and may yet slot in another movie before he gets to Indy. We’ll keep you posted, though…
