Gotham City Sirens: David Ayer Teases Villain for Harley Quinn Movie

David Ayer and Margot Robbie will bring Harley Quinn back to the big screen with Gotham City Sirens with another Batman villain in tow.

Well, it looks like David Ayer is going to continue expanding the DC movie universe. After Suicide Squad introduced fans to a whole host of villains, including Batman rogues The Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, and Deadshot, he’s taking another swing through Gotham City. This time with a female villains movie called Gotham City Sirens.

Based on how that Gotham City Sirens name has been deployed in the comics, we’re likely to meet brand new big screen versions of Poison Ivy and Catwoman in this project, and it will probably give us a host of new DC Comics characters and concepts on the big screen as well. Margot Robbie, the highlight of Suicide Squad, will return as Harley Quinn.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet (the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot and Sherlock Holmes 3) is writing. Margot Robbie will produce.

Suicide Squad 2 is definitely still on the table, and THR also reports that Warner Bros. is considering a Deadshot solo movie as well. It’s not clear if this takes the place of the Harley Quinn movie in development which Margot Robbie is also producing, which reportedly has a screenplay in development from Christina Hodson.

Now, who could the villain be? Well, this is admittedly not much, but David Ayer, who tends to be open about such things on social media, just tweeted this out…

This handsome fella is Roman Sionis, known by his Gotham City crime lord name of Black Mask. So yes, this would be another DC movie about supervillains featuring a Batman villain, but certainly one that comes with less baggage than Mr. J did in Suicide Squad.

No word on a release date yet, but there are several open spots on the DC superhero movie calendar where this could slot in.
