Frozen 2 is still a long way off for fans and families wanting to see a full-fledged adventure starring Elsa and Anna. The two princesses will of course be returning for the 2019 sequel, but in the meantime Disney is making sure not to let it go too far away from young ones’ minds.
Thus enter “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” a yuletide animation short that brings back all of your favorite characters for an adventure that is set during the time of year when it’s actually appropriate for snow to be blowing cold on the mountain tonight.
In the new 21-minute short that will play before Pixar’s Coco in November, Olaf (Josh Gad) goes on a noble quest to discover worthwhile holiday traditions for the sisters Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) for their first Christmas together as non-estranged sisters. Since they haven’t spent a holiday together since their early childhoods, they don’t know how to ring in the season until Olaf discovers what the other residents of Arendelle do for celebrations.
Notably, this will be the first time a Pixar film will be introduced with a Walt Disney Animation Studios short. Initially, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” was meant to debut on ABC before John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Disney and Pixar Animation, and directors Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton decided it was too cinematic for only a run on the small screen.
Coco and “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” will be in theaters on Nov. 22, 2017, just in time for Christmas. But Frozen 2 won’t be opening up its gate until Nov. 27, 2019.
