Warning: contains Avengers: Infinity War spoilers
Black Panther star Letitia Wright teased the crowd at MCM Comic-Con in London with the possibility of Shuri taking over from T’Challa as Wakanda’s future ruler.
When asked by an audience member whether she was prepared to take on the title from her character’s brother after Thanos’ actions in Infinity War, she said to rapturous applause: “To be comic-book accurate, yes.”
That does, of course, depend somewhat on whether her character survived the film’s finale, which is something Wright herself doesn’t even know.
The actress also spoke about the online conversation around Shuri technically being a Disney Princess, pointing out what a different kind of character she is to those seen before in that world.
She said: “I was like, ‘what’s this Disney Princess pressure? Do I have to be perfect?’ Then I realised that everyone’s just so geeked about having a different kind of female character in the Marvel universe and the Disney universe. And there’s going to be much, much more – I’m not the only Disney Princess to come to the surface and claim that title.
“I’m so honored, seriously. I grew up on the Disney movies and grew up with the Disney Princesses and they didn’t really look like me. But now, you can go buy action figures and say ‘this is a Disney Princess’ – right on!”
