Confirmed: Zack Snyder to direct Superman, is General Zod the villain?

The search for the director of Superman: The Man Of Steel is over — and it’s Watchmen helmer Zack Snyder who’s got the job…

Now, here’s a choice that may well divide a few people. The search for a director for Warner Bros’ next take on Superman is over, and it’s been confirmed that Zack Snyder will be taking on the job.

The next Superman film is being overseen by Christopher Nolan, but Snyder will move on to direct the film once he’s done and dusted on his next project, Sucker Punch. That’s due out in March of next year, and it’s his latest project for Warner Bros, following the likes of 300 and Watchmen.

Snyder, speaking to Deadline, said, “It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it.”

It seems fair to assume that the new Superman film will be shooting by around this time next year, especially if it’s got the end of 2012 deadline to hit. Let the speculation as to who will be filling the blue tights continue.
