Boy Erased: First Trailer for Joel Edgerton’s New Film

Joel Edgerton’s debut feature as director was the superb thriller The Gift, that’s very much worth seeking out if you haven’t yet had the please. His second feature? It’s taking an even darker turn, as Edgerton has adapted the book Boy Erased: A Memoir Of Identity, Faith And Family, by Garrard Conley, for the big screen.

Set for release in November, Edgerton has penned the screenplay and directs this one. He takes on a supporting role in the ensemble as well, that’s led by Nicole Kidman, Lucas Hedges, Russell Crowe, Cherry Jones and Xavier Dolan.

The first trailer and official synopsis for the movie have just been released too, and we’ll deal with those in turn. Here’s the trailer…

“Boy Erased” tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.
