Blindspotting Trailer: Sundance Standout Highlights Police Brutality

Hamilton star Daveed Diggs stars in the drama about a man trying to finish his last three days of probation without incident.

Blindspotting, director Carlos López Estrada’s feature film debut, got a lot of buzz coming out of Sundance and, after seeing the first trailer for the Oakland-set dramedy, it’s not hard to see why.

Daveed Diggs stars as Collin, a father trying to make it through his last three days of probation without incident. This is made more difficult by Collin’s best friend, Miles (Rafael Casal), who proudly carries around a gun, and by the fact that he is a black man in America. When Collin witnesses a police officer (played by Ethan Embry) shooting an unarmed black man as he is running away, he is confronted with the choice of whether he will testify against the cop in court.

Blindspotting is a story about gentrification and the changing face of Oakland and other placed like it, as well as what it is like to be a black man in America. It also stars Sleepy Hollow‘s Janina Gavankar as Collin’s ex and co-worker. It is definitely one to look out for. Check out the full trailer…
