Batgirl: Joss Whedon Not Looking At Star Name for Lead Role

Joss Whedon shares a few words on his thoughts about casting the role of Batgirl...

Batgirl in DC Comics

The premiere of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 took place in Hollywood overnight, and one of the attendees was Joss Whedon. Whedon, who has directed a pair of Avengers movies for Marvel of course, is next set to tackle a standalone Batgirl movie for DC. At said premiere, Whedon was asked about potential casting for the role, telling Variety that “I don’t have my eye on anybody”.

“I feel like I’m creating this character, I’m going to dialogue with her, and then we’ll see who joins that later on,” Whedon said. “I doubt it will be a name. This is somewhere where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her.”

Not that he has anything against big names. “I’m not against movie stars, they’re great, but you need somebody who’s going to be just right. And a situation like this, the name carries a lot of weight so it’s not as critical.”

Early days, then, and as we hear more on Batgirl casting, we’ll keep you posted. Early word coming out of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, by the way, seems very positive…
