Last week, Antoine Fuqua was spreading James Bond rumors all over town. Now that it turns out that he actually wasn’t, he’s moved on to the MCU instead.
The news comes via an interview with Hey You Guys where the Equalizer 2 director revealed a meeting he’s got pencilled in with Kevin Feige. According to Fuqua, he’s “just talking” with the Marvel boss about a few things at the moment, but the only things Feige would possibly want to talk about is if/what/when and how Fuqua might be involved in future MCU movies.
According to Fuqua, it’s not the first time either. “I’ve been approached about [superhero movies]” he says. “For me it has to be the right one, in the right situation because there’s so much visual effects going on and – where’s the director in it all? I need to understand it because it’s like management… they have a machine, they’ve got people, there’s the design, the whole thing is sketched out… Is the director doing that? Or is it a hundred other people?”
Going on to say that he was the first choice for Black Panther (“they talked to me about that years ago”), he then mentions Sony’s Morbius The Living Vampire – which now has Daniel Espinosa at the helm with Jared Leto in the lead.
He might just be bragging, but Fuqua would seem like a great choice for any future MCU film. He knows his way around action, he always has a unique, gritty visual tone and he’s probably the only person in Hollywood who could convince Denzel Washington to do a comic book movie.
