At Microsoft’s big X019 event in London, a dark new action game starring former Hellboy actor Ron Perlman was revealed. It’s called West of Dead and it comes to us from UK-based studio Upstream Arcade.
The official press release describes the game thusly: “Thrown into the unknown procedurally generated hunting grounds of Purgatory, your skills will be put to the test as you shoot and dodge your way through the grime and grit of the underworld. West of Dead evolves the twin-stick shooter with tactical cover usage, find out if you have what it takes to get through Purgatory with your soul intact.”
You can check out the game’s first trailer, which shows off some funky trigger-happy combat, right here:
It looks like fun, doesn’t it? The visual style is nicely comic-booky, the core concept sounds cool, and the combination of Perlman’s voice and a gun-toting fighter with a flaming skull is pretty damn tantalizing. It also helps that the art seems to be at least partly inspired by the work of Mike Mignola, the creator who birthed Perlman’s most famous, devil-horned role.
Also, here’s an extra piece of good news: you can jump into the game right now if you want to, because an open beta is running on Xbox One until Nov. 25. More details on the beta can be found at this link.
The game’s full launch is slated for 2020. It will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’ll also be available through Xbox Game Pass, which is always a plus.
We’ll be sure to let you know when the fully-fledged West of Dead release date is announced.
