If you’re one of the many who just can’t wait for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, then you might want to keep an eye on a newly announced Vampire: The Masquerade spin-off title that offers a slightly refined take on the franchise’s narrative experience.
“Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York is a unique, atmospheric, single-player narrative experience, set in the rich, fully-licensed, globally recognized universe of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition,” reads a press release from developer Draw Distance. “The game aims to present the struggle for power between two vampiric factions, Camarilla and Anarchs, among the landmarks and nightscape of the Big Apple.”
Coteries of New York has you play as a new vampire living in New York City. Along with occasionally feeding your bloodlust, you’ll need to navigate the complicated political landscape of the series’ world of vampires, where various factions compete for ideologies and territory. More often than not, their views contradict with the views of another and don’t necessarily follow traditional good and evil paths. That means that your decisions will be based on your own moral radar.
In terms of the gameplay, it sounds like Coteries will follow the structure of a visual novel or choose your own adventure game. That means you shouldn’t expect much in the way of action, but the complicated decision making, brilliant narrative, and fascinating characters this series is known for should make up for that.
A new take on the vampire RPG franchise is certainly welcome. Given how long it has been since the last installment in the series, we’ll take what we can get until the release of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. That includes this recently revealed gameplay trailer which gives us a slightly better look at what is to come:
Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York is expected to be released on December 11 for PC and Nintendo Switch.
