The Turbografx-16 is coming back to the market, with Konami following the trend of re-releasing retro consoles as miniature modern products. The Turbografx-16, which was initially released in Japan in 1987, will be reborn as the Turbografx-16 Mini.
This trend of tiny retro consoles, of course, has already seen the NES Mini, SNES Mini, and the PS Classic hitting shop selves, with the Sega Genesis Mini in the pipeline for later this year. The Turbografx-16 Mini, like all of these other products, will come pre-loaded with a selection of games.
“The Turbografx-16 mini is a faithful replica of the original console that fits snugly in the palm of your hand,” the official Konami website tells us. “Don’t worry, though–the controllers are still their original size, allowing for exactly the same gameplay experience!”
There are three main points that Konami is trying to get across on its website: you’ll be able to Quick Save at any time; you’ll be able to choose different display modes, including a setting that replicates the scanlines on a CRT TV; and, if you purchase an extra product called the multitap, you’ll be able to connect up with friends for five-player multiplayer.
