Sega has announced that the Sega Genesis Mini is launching this autumn, promising to pack “40 legendary games” into a smaller version of the iconic home console. As one of the major platforms of the video game industry’s golden age, it’s about time Sega officially brought back the console.
This tiny version of the Genesis was initially announced on the official Sega website, and it has since been added to Amazon, with the retail giant already accepting pre-orders. (You can click here if you want to place such an order.)
Here’s everything you need to know about the Sega Genesis Mini:

Sega Genesis Mini Release Date
The Sega Mega Drive Mini will launch on Sept. 19, and following the middling reception of the PlayStation Classic, we look forward to seeing how it fares. We’ll keep you posted as more games are announced…
Sega Genesis Mini Price
The price point for the device is listed as $79.99 on Amazon, and the product listing promises a plug-and-play experience with two controllers included. There’s no surprise there, of course, as it sounds like the Sega Genesis Mini will be pretty similar to the NES Mini, SNES Mini, and PlayStation Classic.
Sega Genesis Mini Design
One thing that is sure to please owners of an original Genesis is the design at play here: both the packaging (pictured atop this page) and the console itself (pictured below) are fairly faithful recreations of the classics they’re based on…
The games will be included as digital files, though, so we’d assume that the cartridge-shaped gap in the middle of the console is just for show.
Sega Genesis Mini Trailer
Sega has released a new sizzle reel designed to show off some of the Mini’s most notable titles as well as the features of the device itself. Check it out:
