Microsoft has confirmed that Scalebound has been canceled. Here is the statement from the company:
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, and other great experiences.
The news that Scalebound was in trouble was first revealed by a report from Kotaku. The report suggested that the game, which was being developed by PlatinumGames and directed by Hideki Kamiya (Bayonetta), had been stuck in development hell for quite some time.
The site also pointed out that Scalebound had been suspiciously absent from Xbox marketing of late, including an Xbox Wire post from last week talking about the future of the console. The game’s official page had also been removed from the Xbox website.
Scalebound was originally unveiled at E3 2014 and was present at last year’s Microsoft E3 presentation. The game was expected to arrive sometime this year.

At the Microsoft E3 2016 press conference, we were given our first look at the multiplayer co-op mode of Scalebound, the hectic action RPG by Platinum Games and renowned game designer Hideki Kamiya. And given the towering monstrosities that are the enemies in this game, you won’t want to be going it alone.
The new co-op trailer shows players taking on a larger-than-life boss fight with the help of a flying, fire breathing companion. When the boss is finally felled, the players jump on top of him to deliver the finishing blows, hanging onto his body and landing one bloody punch after another, all to a head-banging rock soundtrack.
