Some fans may be unconvinced by Capcom’s decision to make Resident Evil 7 a first-person experience, breaking with more than 20 years of tradition – but one modder appears to have proved that the original game from 1996 would have worked surprisingly well as a survival horror FPS.
For the first time, we can see things from Jill’s perspective, as she roams the same (bio)hazard-filled mansion we all remember from the original Resident Evil. Created by Rod Lima, the mock-up uses environments and assets from the Wii rail-shooter spin-off, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles – and we must say, it seems to work surprisingly well.
So well, in fact, that if Resident Evil 7 proves to be a success, it would even make sense if Capcom created a proper first-person reworking of the original further down the road. If nothing else, it’s fascinating to see such a familiar game shown from a whole new angle.
Resident Evil 7 is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
